Virginia City is a popular day trip for people visiting the Reno/Tahoe area. Remnants of its heyday as a boomtown (after silver was discovered in 1859) are well preserved. Victorian era buildings and homes line the streets, as do wooden sidewalks. And there are plenty of juicy stories of Virginia City’s infamous residents to be found in museums and the historical tours!
Though the town can be a bit too touristy for my taste, I have thoroughly enjoyed nighttime ghost walks, cemetery tours, a mine tour, and the V&T railroad ride. I can’t deny that it’s a fascinating place. You can find more about the history of Virginia City here.
