Portland, I Think I Love You…

…But I sprained my ankle on your sidewalk so I’m still on the fence.

How it happened: I was looking to my left at the empty street consumed with freezing fog and I was thinking to myself… after we have a drink at this whiskey bar, I really need to get a moody shot of everyone walking in the middle of the road, in the light of the streetlamps

I didn’t get that picture of my friends frolicking in the fog, and believe it or not, my sprained ankle put just the tiniest of dark clouds over the weekend.  I hobbled to the brew pubs, around Forest Park, and back and forth to New Seasons. I sat in the sun with my foot propped up and a good book in hand while the others went cross country skiing.  I had a fantastic time.

I was just trying to be funny, I’m not really on the fence. Portland is awesome. Aside from the cold and damp, never can get warm kind of feeling (I know, it’s winter and the high desert climate I live in is turning me into a wimp.). I love the endless options for eating, drinking, and shopping. That you can escape the city and get enveloped into nature in minutes. And the people – the people seem to be so accepting and non-judgemental.  How is everyone so friendly, even while driving?!

Portland friends, you are awesome hosts.  I can’t wait to visit again!

One last thing. My good friend Tim Rains is setting out to eat his way around Portland – Paleo Style, proving you can eat very well while eating out on a diet.  He’s an excellent writer and he’s blogging about his adventures in food here.
